Wild Dolphins from a Boat or a Dolphin Show: How to Choose
Both put the word dolphin on the ticket. They have almost nothing else in common, and the right one depends on what you actually want from the day.
Short answer
They are different days. On the Side dolphin boat trip you spend a day at sea with swims and lunch, and wild dolphins may or may not pass. At a dolphin show you watch animals in a pool at a scheduled time. If seeing a dolphin for certain is the whole point, a show is built around that; if the sea day is the point and dolphins are a hope, book the boat.
Two kinds of day, side by side
| Side dolphin boat trip | A dolphin show | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you are | On a boat on the river and the open sea | In seats beside a pool |
| The dolphins | Wild; they may pass, and nobody can promise it | Present by design; the show is about them |
| What else fills the day | Three swims, BBQ lunch on deck, a foam party | Whatever the venue itself offers |
| How long it takes | A full day: the boat sails at 10:00 | Set by the venue's own timetable |
| What it costs | €21 per adult, hotel transfer included | The venue's price — check it with them |
What the boat trip is, and is not
It is a day out on the water: down the Manavgat river, a swim where it meets the sea at Boğaz, lunch on deck, a long swim at Dolphin Island and music on the way home. The boat crosses water that wild dolphins and the protected Caretta caretta turtle call home, and some days they come near. Some days they do not.
It is not a swim-with programme. The animals are never fed or handled; you swim at the anchor stops, and any animal that appears stays wild and keeps its distance on its own terms. Our guide to watching wild dolphins well explains how to behave if one comes close.
Choosing honestly
Ask yourself one question: would the day be a failure without a dolphin? If the answer is yes, a boat on the open sea is the wrong bet, and it is better to hear that from us now. If the answer is no — if a day of swimming and sun with a chance of something wild sounds good — the boat is the better fit.
Some guests also hold firm views about dolphins kept in pools, in one direction or the other. We make no claims either way; it is your decision, and a fair one to weigh. With young children, think about what they will enjoy for a whole day, not only about the animal on the poster: the boat asks for patience and sun protection, a show asks for neither.
Nothing stops you doing both on different days. We sell only the boat, so for a show you deal with the venue directly.
If the boat wins
Check the prices — €21 per adult and €15 a child between 2 and 10, with under-2s free — then reserve your places. No money moves before the trip, and you may still back out for nothing up to 48 hours ahead.
